Glen Park Primary School

Success for all, through learning together

Positive Behaviour Policy

At Glen Park Primary we strive to ensure that our core aim of ‘Success for all, through learning together’ is a reality for all of our children. We have well established systems within the school, including our Golden Rules and Glen Park Learning Behaviours of ‘Motivation, Independence and Resilience’ which underpin our work and are well understood by everyone in our school community.

We have recently been undertaking a range of training with our staff to increase their knowledge and understanding of trauma informed behaviour and strategies that can be used to support children when they are upset or emotionally dysregulated in the learning environment. To reflect this work, we have made some changes to our Positive Behaviour Policy. These are outlined below:

  • We have established the use of Ready, Respectful and Safe as key language to summarise our Golden Rules and Learning Behaviours. This simplified language is used by all adults when rewarding, discussing or addressing children’s behaviour within the school.
  • We have developed a range of non-verbal cues to use with the children to manage behaviour and transition around both the classroom and wider school.
  • We use scripted conversations in the classroom when children need to be reminded of our 3 core rules. This is to ensure that all adults are using consistent language and approaches to promote positive behaviours
  • We have introduced more restorative approaches into our policy to enable children to have the opportunity to reflect upon and change their behaviours when they become upset or dysregulate. This will include providing time out of the classroom to calm down through the use of the Nest (our nurture room), access to the well-being garden or through some 1:1 support time with a trusted adult.
  • When needed, we hold restorative conversations with children to support them in reflecting upon their behaviours and how these need to change moving forward.

Further details about our approaches to promoting positive behaviour within our school community are outlined in our policy which can be accessed below.
